Chin militia offers Kyat 5m reward for defection from junta forces

The Chin Defense Force in Mindat Township, Chin State, has offered cash reward of Kyat 5 million for any junta soldier who defects if they bring their weapons and ammunition with them.

The enticement also said they will also get a chance to take refuge abroad.

A CDF member said, “Some soldiers want to leave the military, but they see no living and livelihood after they abandon their organization. They might inevitably have to shoot at civilians, and they are just the pawns of dictators. Our offer would be an opportunity for their freedom.”

A total of 10 soldiers fled from the army on 7 August while they were on duty at the Kyaut Htu airfield, together with their weapons and ammunition, but one of them was recaptured by the military.
