A Myanmar military suicide drone attack on a camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in eastern Loikaw Township, Karenni (Kayah) State, killed two civilians and injured two others on August 11, according to local aid workers.

The evening attack involved a suicide drone carrying three drop bombs that struck the camp, killing one man and one woman.

The strike also ignited a fire that destroyed one displacement shelter.

"One of the injured men is currently receiving a blood transfusion, while the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries," said a local aid worker assisting displaced residents.

Detailed information on the victims’ ages and ground conditions remains limited due to ongoing telecommunication disruptions.

Residents stated that the area targeted had no active fighting or military presence. The strike follows a similar aerial attack on July 14 in eastern Loikaw that killed a displaced woman.

Due to the heightened security risk, local authorities have temporarily closed schools in eastern Loikaw Township.

Airstrikes and drone bombardments by military forces across Demawso, Hpruso, and eastern Loikaw townships have killed at least eight civilians since the beginning of August, according to local monitoring groups.
