Myanmar junta-appointed Mandalay ward administrator killed

A junta-appointed ward administrator in Mandalay was shot four times and killed on the morning of 10 October.

U Aung San, a leader in the junta-aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia was the ward administrator of Mandalay’s  Kyunlone U Shaung Ward who lived between 42nd Street and 43rd Street in Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay, according to locals.

A local resident said to Mizzima: “He reached the front of his house and as soon as he got out of his car two men shot Aung San. Four or five shots were fired at him. There was a pistol in his car and his wife was waving it around in her hand in a threatening way. The administrator died immediately.”

No specific organisation has yet claimed responsibility for the killing, but according to someone from a Mandalay defence force Aung San had previously shot and killed a young anti-junta protester.

According to another local, junta soldiers have surrounded Aung San’s home and are inspecting it and the surrounding area.
