The Mon State Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) held a ceremony on February 28 to honor and support the New Mon State Party (NMSP) for signing the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA) on February 13.

U Win Maw Oo, secretary of the Mon State USDP, said the ceremony aims to raise public awareness on the signing of the NCA by the NMSP and the LDU since it has opened the path to national-level political dialogue and it is a good tendency for peace process.

“There’s no need to differentiate between parties and ethnic people. These issues are concerned with nationalism. They are concerned with peace, which is the most important issue for our country. We believe everyone should cooperate and work for [peace] instead of thinking that these [peace] issues were led by our party,” he said.

Over 300 people attended the ceremony, which was held at Chaungzon A Nauk Sein Party grounds in Chaungzon, Mon State.
