Junta Shelling Kills Woman In Taunggyi District

Sai Hseng Leng — A woman died on Friday from regime shelling during clashes with People’s Defence Forces (PDF) in Taunggyi District, southern Shan State.

The PDFs fought with the military near Tawng Salon, Myauk Salon and Tawng Mae Ting villages between Pekong and Pinlaung. After the clashes, the regime fired artillery shells indiscriminately in the area, some of which hit Tawng Salon village, killing the civilian and damaging four houses.

“The woman was sitting in her house when the shell hit and succumbed to her injuries the next morning,” a man from Pinlaung town told SHAN, wishing to remain anonymous.

The military closed the Soung Pyaung checkpoint the same day the fighting broke out. The next day, the army opened the road to Soung Pyaung, but to this day no one dares to drive on it.

According to eyewitnesses, six military trucks were sent from Pinlaung to Pekon near the border with Karenni State.
