A Russian-made Covid (Omicron) vaccine will be available in Kyaikto Township beginning January 27, according to the Kyaikto Township Health Department.

Dr Khun Maung Oo, Director of the Covid-19 Department of Health at the Kyaikto Township Health Department, said that the Russian vaccine known as Sputnik Light has shown to be resistant to the latest Covid-19 variant.  Individuals require just one dose of this vaccine.  

“The new Russian vaccine is more effective at protecting against Omicron than previous Covid vaccines. Vaccinations will start tomorrow. This vaccine does not need a two dose injection regime like other vaccines. It is also suitable for the elderly. It  is a good option for those who have never been vaccinated.” Said Dr. Khun Maung Oo.

According to the Department of Health, persons under the age of 18 as well as  pregnant and breastfeeding mothers can not yet be vaccinated.

The vaccine arrived in Kyaikto Township on 24 January.

The Department of Health is urging people to be vaccinated with  Sputnik Light, which protects against Omicron, the latest  strain of the Covid virus,which has been circulating  in Myanmar for the last month.
