Junta forces killed 32 women and children and injured 84 others across southeastern Myanmar between January and June 2026, according to a report by the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM).
During the six months, the Myanmar military launched 19 airstrikes and 43 artillery bombardments targeting civilian areas across Mon State, Karen State, and Tanintharyi Region—collectively known as southeastern Myanmar.
Airstrikes claimed the lives of three children and 12 women, while injuring 20 children and 13 women. Additional artillery and drone strikes killed five children and 12 women, leaving 29 children and 22 women injured, the report stated.
“The military has increasingly targeted civilian areas with airstrikes, heavy artillery, mortar fire, drone strikes, and ground offensives,” said Nai Aue Mon, Program Director of HURFOM. “As a result, civilians are being killed and injured not only in active conflict zones, but also in areas with no ongoing clashes.”
HURFOM noted that the persistent attacks have forced thousands of residents to flee their homes, with women facing heightened risks and hardship amid the ongoing conflict.
Since the February 2021 military coup, junta operations in southeastern Myanmar have killed at least 99 children and injured 228 others, while 277 women have been killed and 628 injured, according to HURFOM’s historical data.
