The case of Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, the Chair of the National League for Democracy (NLD) for Mawlamyine township, who was charged under the military’s anti-terrorism law, was transferred to township court on Janurary 13th.
According to a source close to the family, Daw Nwe Nwe Aung’s lawyer submitted a request for a transfer from the district court to the township court, which the judge granted.
“It was learned that the township court will be where cases will be heard from now on. Lawyers said that she was in good health. The court date is not yet known.” Said a person who was close to the family.
The authorities filed charges under Section 52 of the Anti-Terrorism Law, claiming the NLD Char was financing terrorist organizations.
Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, a lawyer, was a member of parliament who won the 2015 and 2020 general elections. She was arrested on November 27, 2021 at her home in Mawlamyine Market quarter.
