Around 500 buildings were destroyed in and around Falam Town, Chin State during the five months of fighting before resistance forces took control of the town.
The destroyed buildings included homes, government offices, and religious sites, according to the Chin National Organisation/Chin National Defence Force (CNO/CNDF).
CNO/CNDF spokesperson Salai Timmy said: “We've documented 68 houses in Falam Town that were completely destroyed—totally uninhabitable—especially the ones bombed by the junta’s fighter jets, which are beyond any hope of repair. Then there are another 217 houses that were damaged by mortar shells dropped from Y-12 utility aircraft, mostly with damage like roofs being blown off. The rest of the damage was to government buildings. On top of that, 10 churches were destroyed. Altogether, the number of buildings damaged or destroyed is over 400, almost 500 in total.”
Most of the damage was caused by junta airstrikes, including attacks with incendiary bombs.
“Most of the damage was caused by air raids. In some cases, gas cylinders inside the houses exploded during the airstrikes, making the destruction even worse. Some houses were completely reduced to ashes by incendiary bombs. And there were also buildings hit by 60mm mortar shells and 122mm howitzer shells dropped from Y-12 aircraft,” Salai Timmy added.
Currently, the CNO/CNDF is prioritising the safe return of displaced residents to their homes, whilst also carrying out ongoing efforts to clear debris, restore drinking water and electricity to the town.
The offensive to capture Falam Town, known as Operation Chin Brotherhood (Operation CB), started on 9 November 2024 and the town was finally successfully captured by resistance forces on 9 April 2025.
But, capturing the town came at a heavy cost. During the fighting for the town, 89 Chin Brotherhood Alliance members were killed, including members of the CNO/CNDF, a further 30 had to have limb amputations and around 500 were injured.
