Top junta official hopes to enhance cooperation with China after new government takes office

Khaing Lu Hla (Roma Mray) — Junta’s deputy chief of staff Lt Gen Soe Win expressed his desire to enhance cooperation with China once the new government is in place.

He mentioned it in his speech at Chinese New Year celebrations at national sports hall (1) Thuwunna in Yangon on 14 February, where he also extended greetings to the Chinese community in Myanmar.

As per a statement from the Chinese embassy in Yangon, the junta official revealed that the new government will  soon take charge as the military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) had won the last election. He emphasized on strengthening relations with Beijing.

Lt Gen Soe Win  also highlighted deep brotherly friendships between Myanmar and China and noted the progress in various bilateral areas. He expressed gratitude for  support to earthquake victims of Myanmar and also the peace process in the country. Supporting the one-China policy, he also favoured more collaborations with the Beijing administration.

The event was attended by Chinese ambassador Ma Jia and other diplomats from foreign countries as well as representatives of Chinese business organizations and individuals from different sectors. A strong gathering of over 1,500 participants was recorded.

Ambassador Ma Jia anticipated that China-Myanmar relations will achieve new heights in the coming days  under the guidance of senior leaders from both sides.

It may be mentioned that China faces criticism from various corners for engaging with Myanmar's junta and intervening in the country's internal affairs and also supplying military equipment to the regime that leads the killing of common Burmese nationals.

Ma Jia remained vocal for the Burmese military rulers and she was the only female diplomat among those global envoys.
