Arakan Army Strikes Three Myanmar Military Outposts Near Strategic Radar Base

The Arakan Army (AA) launched a coordinated overnight assault against three temporary Myanmar military outposts guarding reinforcements along the Ann–Padan highway, local military sources reported on Thursday.

The targeted outposts, located near the border between Rakhine State and Magway Region, reportedly collapsed under the assault. Wounded junta personnel were evacuated overnight to a hospital in Padan Township.

According to a local source, the AA initiated the offensive on the evening of August 19, targeting two temporary camps near Gok Gyi village with artillery shelling, drone strikes, and direct ground engagements.

Simultaneously, AA forces struck a third outpost positioned between Pazhi village and Nat Yay Kan Mountain.

"The camps suffered severe damage, and multiple casualties—both dead and wounded—were transported toward Padan," a local source told Narinjara. "The primary air defense installation at Nat Yay Kan itself is under near-daily artillery and drone bombardment, leaving garrisoned troops with virtually no fortified shelter."

Sources noted that the ethnic armed group utilized a combination of weaponized drones, sniper fire, artillery, and close-quarters infantry maneuvers to overpower the military columns.

The clashes come as the Myanmar military attempts to breach a year-long siege imposed by the AA on the Nat Yay Kan air defense and radar installation.

Positioned atop a high-altitude peak in the Arakan Mountains, the installation occupies a critical strategic vantage point overlooking regional airspace.

Despite deploying thousands of reinforcements backed by airstrikes, junta forces have struggled to dismantle the blockade.

The latest offensive follows an August 15 ambush in which the AA targeted a reinforcing military column bound for Nat Yay Kan, reportedly killing approximately 60 junta personnel—including senior officers—and wounding dozens more.
