Nearly all residents of Kasupa Village in Phekon Township—located on the Shan–Karenni border—including children and the elderly, have fallen ill, prompting urgent calls for medical assistance and essential medicines, according to local sources.
Infections have surged since the second week of August, with no signs of improvement, a local woman told Kantarawaddy Times.
"Almost the entire village is sick. It is primarily seasonal flu right now," she said.
In addition to fevers, children and adults are experiencing itching, diarrhea, and bloody stools. Symptoms of suspected malaria and mumps have also been reported among community members, she added.
Kasupa Village lacks a clinic or medical supplies. Compounded by poor road infrastructure and remote geography, securing necessary health aid has proven extremely difficult.
"Medicines are completely out of reach, and no humanitarian organization has been able to deliver medical aid here. Help simply cannot get through," the resident said.
Nestled in a remote, mountainous area within the Yi Nwet (2) village tract along the border of Phekon and Pinlaung townships, Kasupa Village comprises 23 households with a population of 131.
