Kyaw Myo Aung — One of two missing border guard police from Thayet Oak outpost in northern Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, was found dead on Monday morning.
Police constables Zeyar Myo and Myint Thein went missing along with their weapons on September 5 while they were visiting their families in Ywet Nyo Taung village, said a police officer who did not want to reveal his name.
The body of Zeyar Myo was discovered with slash wounds to his neck and genitals at a prawn farm near Ywet Nyo Taung village.
Arakan State Hluttaw lawmaker U Tun Hla Sein from Maungdaw Township said the other police constable remains missing.
“I heard that two police constables had been missing since September 5. They are missing with their weapons. One of them was found dead on the morning of September 7 with knife injuries. I do not know in detail,” he said.
Multiple police officers have been killed in Arakan State amid conflict between the military and the Arakan Army, and with a sometimes active Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) presence also in the area.
Two officers from the Aungzu Border Guard Force in northern Maungdaw Township were killed on April 15, and more recently, the head of the Kyauktaw Myoma police station was gunned down in front of the station on August 12.
