Nearly 3000 villagers fled after Junta troops burned a village in Magway

A village in Myaing Township, Magway Region was raided by Military Council troops and set on fire, forcing nearly 3000 villagers to flee, locals said.

An eyewitness said that the Military Council troops burned Linkadaw Village on the morning of October 23.

"The soldiers entered the village on October 22. The next morning, they started setting fire to the village. The villagers had fled since they arrived. So, there were no people in the village when the village was burned down. The exact reason why the Army committed the arson attack on the village is unknown yet. In the previous days, the PDFs had fired at the military base in Linkadaw. The Military Council’s Air Force retaliated and attacked at that time too”, he said.

Linkadaw is a large village consisting of more than 1000 households. It is not yet known how many houses were burned down by the Junta troops.

The Myaing-PDF announced that the local resistance forces jointly attacked the Military Council camp near Linkadaw village on October 21. Because of this, the Junta’s Air Force launched air strikes in the area on that day, a member of Yesagyo-PDF said.

“We estimated there were about 50 troops in the camp. After we launched the first strike, they responded with aerial attacks. They shot from the sky for about 30 minutes, but our troops were not harmed”, the Yesagyo-PDF member explained.

7 members of the Junta Army at the Linkadaw camp were killed and 2 bunkers were also seized. However, the Military Council's air support arrived, and due to lack of weaponry, the PDFs were unable to capture the entire camp, only burning the fence down and retreating.
