“We have started distributing electricity from 5:30pm today [October 1]. We are currently providing [electricity] to nine wards in Myebon,” said U Win Hlaing, Myebon township’s electricity officer.

A total of 1,166 meter boxes have been connected to the national power grid in Myebon, according to the township electricity office.

However, the roll out has not been without some reported glitches.

“The power lines are not stable at the moment so some places are still in the dark. It [the electricity] began being distributed late [in the evening] so it’s too dark for them to do the repair,” U Indasara, the chief monk of Aung Mingalar Monastery in Myebon told Narinjara News.

Myebon Township’s electricity office is planning to hook up the five villages within Myebon township by the end of this year.

Rakhine’s Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Rathedaung, Pauktaw, Ramree, and Manaung townships still lack reliable access to electricity.
