A search party has been deployed to locate Ko Maung Than Htay, a missing resident of Chut Pyin Village.
A search party looking for a missing villager in Rathedaung township stumbled upon an abandoned camp, according to a member of the search team.
Chut Pyin Village resident Ko Maung Than Htay went missing on July 27 while reportedly searching for snails near the Thingan Nat Mountain.
A joint team of 30 Tatmadaw soldiers and 30 local residents are trying to find him. On July 30, the team found a camp with tents, rice bags and plates, as well as some items allegedly belonging to Ko Maung Than Htay, according to U Maung Tun Sein, a villager who is participating in the search. He said that soldiers are investigating the abandoned camp as a potential base for the Muslim insurgent group operating in northern Rakhine (Arakan) State that calls itself the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).
“We found a bag, a slingshot, and arrows belonging to Maung Than Htay. We also found three tents, four rice bags, and around 40 plates,” he said.
“We are still searching for him. We haven’t found any other evidence yet. We also haven’t found the [missing] dogs [that disappeared while accompanying Ko Maung Than Htay],” U Maung Tun Sein added.
Two other men, both from Kyauk Sar Taing Village, were reported missing in April after they allegedly went to search for snails in the Mayu Mountain Range. They still have not been found.
