Narinjara News understands that Border Guard Police conducted an area clearance operation after receiving information about the arrival of an armed group in the western hills of Tin Sat Village on June 21.

The police reportedly arrived on the hills at 11:50pm and found a man carrying a suspected handmade gun and around 15 other men bearing long swords. The men fled to the western side of the Mayu Mountain Range when the police tried to arrest them.

The police continued their search the next day when they arrested five men who had allegedly attended terrorist training, according to the State Counsellor Office Information Committee.

These individuals are being detained at Nyaung Chaung Police Station in southern Buthidaung Township.

Buthidaung and neighbouring townships were under a four-month crackdown by government forces following the attacks on guard stations last October. Ongoing violence has continued since.
