Ramree Township on Ramree Island in Rakhine State, where several major Chinese projects are situated, has been captured by the Arakan Army (AA), according to AA sources.

On March 6th, the AA managed to eliminate the last remaining Junta soldiers on Theintaung, as they attempted to flee in a Navy barge in the Kaleintaung river.

 The AA has also reduced the Junta soldiers' capability to send reinforcements, weapons, and  supplies to Ramree Township.

"In Ramree, the Junta's ability to supply weapons, food, or reinforcements to its troops was severely hindered by AA's stringent blockade. As a consequence, the remaining soldiers on Theintaung fled to a Navy barge. Following clashes with AA forces, these soldiers surrendered due to lack of ammunition,” the AA source told Narinjara. cember 18th last year, AA successfully captured Ramree Township

after over two months of fighting. The AA source further noted that Ramree Township has now become a Junta-free zone. “There are no Junta troops anymore in Ramree”, he said.

However, despite the absence of Junta troops in Ramree, airstrikes continue, and military vessels in the Kaleintaung River are also firing artillery shells and small arms. Ramree Township has born the brunt of airstrikes, resulting in multiple outbreaks of fires. According to AA, it ranked as the second most affected town from clashes after Pauktaw Township.  

Regarding AA's capture of Ramree Township, AA spokesperson U Khaing Thukha declined to comment at present, citing military security concerns.
