Fierce Fighting Erupts Between Myanmar Military and Arakan Army on Strategic Mountain Route

Intense combat has flared between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) along the Arakan Yoma mountain corridor linking Rakhine State's Ann Township to Magway Region's Mindon Township, locally known as the Ta Lai Taung–Ta Phan Raung Road.

Clashes erupted on August 30 after regime forces launched a large-scale infiltration attempt.

"The junta army is advancing across the Rakhine Yoma in divided columns, and the AA is actively engaging these separated lines," a local source reported.

In response to fierce ground engagements, the regime has launched heavy aerial bombardments along the strategic corridor connecting Ann and Mindon via Ma Ei.

A military observer warned that travelers commuting between Rakhine State and Yangon should completely avoid the route, as encountering advancing military columns poses an extreme risk of arbitrary detention or death.

Daily fighting persists across multiple key locations along the mountain range—including the Nat Yay Kan air defense base, the Thaphan Raung bypass, Saw Township in Magway Region, and Nyaungyo in Bago Region—as the junta deploys thousands of troops in a major offensive.
