Armed Forces Arrest Workers At Power Plant In Waingmaw

Armed forces arrested six workers at the Buga Power Plant in Waingmaw town, Kachin State.

A staff member working at the plant told KNG they didn't explain why they arrested the six men after checking their phones. Seven other staff were on site when the armed forces took away the men at about 11:30 pm on August 9.

The source said they are still trying to find out why it happened.

Burma Army's (BA) Infantry Battalion 58 in Waingmaw town has been launching nightly artillery attacks on villages in Waingmaw Township since the Kachin Independence Army ambushed other BA regiments multiple times last month.

Villagers affected by the military's shelling have sought refuge in the town.
