Monk suffers minor injuries in bomb blast in Three Pagodas Township

Earlier this morning, a bomb exploded near a high school in Three Pagodas township on the Thai-Burmese border, injuring a monk who was giving alms.

“Monks from the 100 temples (Tai Ta Yar) Monastery at the foot of the mountain came down to give alms. The bomb blast took place just after 5:30 a.m. The bomb appears to have been buried by a dirt wall near the intersection of the high school teachers’ dormitory. It exploded there, the monk’s arm was slightly bruised, and a small amount of blood flowed.  The monk’s went to the hospital for treatment and returned to school.” said a nearby monk.

There have been a number of other bomb incidents in recent days.

On the night of May 6, a powerful explosion was reported near the Government High School in Three Pagodas.

On the afternoon of May 7, a bomb exploded in front of the Kawkareik Education Office in Kayin State. No one was injured, nor has anyone or group claimed responsibility.
