The Myanmar military junta continues to arrest and prosecute individuals who leave supportive comments on the Facebook page of "Ye Bilu," a prominent anti-regime resistance group operating in Mon State’s Ye Township.

On August 8, junta forces arrested 29-year-old Ma Phyu Pwint Wai (also known as Thamee Pu), a resident of Setse Village in Thanbyuzayat Township, after she commented on a post published by the Ye Bilu group.

Her comment read: “May everyone stay safe, may everyone live long and remain healthy, and may you be successful in every battle.”

Following her arrest, authorities charged her under Section 52(a) of Myanmar’s Counter-Terrorism Law at the Thanbyuzayat Myoma Police Station.

That same day, security forces detained 50-year-old U Zin Min Khine, a resident of Balauk Nyaung Waing Village in Mudon Township, along the Thanbyuzayat-Kyaikkhami road near Taunghpalu Village.

Sources close to the junta’s police force said officers lay in wait to arrest U Zin Min Khine after receiving a tip-off about his location. Upon inspecting his phone, interrogators found multiple comments on the Ye Bilu page encouraging the fighters, including statements such as, “Brother, please stay alert,” “Fighting, brother... I am glad to see you like this,” and “Brother, please take care of everything.”

He has since been charged under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law at the Mudon Myoma Police Station.

Since the 2021 military coup, the junta has systematically cracked down on digital dissent across Mon State and nationwide, targeting individuals who criticize the regime or share posts supporting the opposition National Unity Government (NUG), People’s Defense Forces (PDF), and allied ethnic armed organizations.

Those detained face severe legal action, commonly charged under Section 505(A) of the Penal Code or provisions of the Counter-Terrorism Law, often resulting in lengthy prison sentences.
