New Mon State Party (NMSP) has said that they will work with government hospitals if they discover potential COVID-19 infections in their territory.

The NMSP has formed its own central, district and township level committees for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“If we discover suspected COVID-19 cases in our territory, we don't have enough equipment to provide medical treatment. We have communicated with the government's public health department,” Nai Banyar Le, who is in charge of NMSP’s interior department, said, adding that they had made “a link” with public hospitals in Ye, Yephyu and Mawlamyine.

 Nai Banyar Le said that he NMSP had already set up facilities to care for patients in their former drug rehabilitation center in Weh Zin village in Mon State’s Ye Township. Patients will first be cared for there and transferred to government hospitals if needed.

NMSP officials have said that there are no reports of suspected cases of the pandemic in their territory.

Mon civil society organizations and the Mon United Party (MUP) jointly launched a coronavirus awareness campaign in NMSP's territory in Yechaung Pyar and distributed personal protection materials to locals.

“They also provided preventative materials such as face masks, gloves, hand gel, and disinfectants in villages,” MUP joint secretary Nai San Tin told NMG of the initiative.  

The NMSP has launched its own COVID-19 awareness campaigns as well, distributed medical materials and food to people in its territory and ethnic Mon people in other areas.
