A village supervisor from Du Chee Yar Tan Village, where clashes between Rohingyas and Arakanese Buddhists allegedly led to a Rohingya massacre in January 2014, was killed when Rohingyas fought each other on 2 May.
The news was confirmed by a police major from Maungdaw District. He said: “The report is correct. They (the Rohingyas) killed themselves and a village supervisor was killed.”
The victim, who was shot, has been identified as Murmad Sutan.
When the authorities searched the area where the man was murdered they found four 7.6KF cartridges, a bullet and an unfired round, said the border police force.
The police major said: “This accident happened in an area controlled by the Border Police Guard, so it is very difficult for us to give you any details. If you ask the Border Police Guards you should be able to find out whether the criminals have been already arrested, or not.”
The murder case is being handled by Police Major Nyein Chan Aye who is temporarily in charge of Border Police Guard Number 4 based in Alal-Thaan-Kyaw in the southern part of Maungdaw Township.
