Two found dead with gunshot wounds in Hpakant

The bodies of two men who had been shot dead were found in Hpakant Township, Kachin State, locals reported.

Locals reported hearing gunfire near Mashikatong and Yumar villages in Hpakant Township around 10 p.m. on November 5. The following morning, two bodies were discovered.

“We heard gunshots last night. This morning, we got word that a man’s body was found in Mashikatong, and another person who’d been shot dead was found in Yumar,” said a Hpakant resident.

Although reports suggest the bodies were found in areas frequently used by junta troops for deployment, MNJ has not been able to independently verify this information.

A man was found dead with gunshot wounds near the Seven Music restaurant in Yumar Village, while another body was discovered in Sector D of Mashikatong, according to locals.

Another Hpakant resident suggested that the victims were likely shot while they were out at night.

Both the junta and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) have imposed a curfew from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am in Hpakant Township, a major jade mining hub.

On November 4, a bomb exploded on the bridge connecting Mashikatong and Yumar, injuring two men.
