Outbreak of Diarrheal Illness in Deiler Kyo Village Requires Emergency Medical Supplies

Karenni State – An outbreak of diarrheal illness has been reported in Deiler Kyo village, Poon Baw Kwout Township, throughout the month of June, according to a local health officer.

“Initially, cases were seen in children aged 11 to 18, but the illness later spread to children under five, as well as older and middle-aged adults,” the health officer explained.

The outbreak reportedly began among boarding students and later spread to both internally displaced persons (IDPs) and local villagers. While some patients have begun to recover, the majority remain affected, the officer said.

“Common symptoms include high fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, and in some cases, vomiting and bloody stools,” the official added.

The cause of the outbreak has not yet been identified. Health workers from Nway Oo Clinic are currently providing treatment, but additional medical supplies — including oral rehydration salts and specific medication for diarrheal diseases — are urgently needed.

Deiler Kyo village is home to 205 local residents, along with 434 internally displaced persons and over 100 boarding students.
