Ward administrator in Myebon Township shot dead

An unidentified man entered a ward administrator’s house in Myebon Township and shot him at close range on Tuesday night.

U Than Maung Chay, ward administrator for Alaebaing ward in Kan Htaung Gyi town, was shot at about 8p.m while he was watching TV in his home.

He received an injury under his right eye, but he died while families had arranged to send him to hospital, according to his daughter Ma Ei Thanda Aung.

“The gunman aimed for my father’s temple, but the bullet hit the right side of his face because my father turned his face to my mother after she shouted in reaction to seeing the assailant drawing out his gun,” she said.

The gunman was bulky and wore raincoat with a hood covering his face, she added.

The wad administrator was a retired corporal from a military medical unit and was working as administrator of Alaebaing ward.

Village or ward administrators including former administrators and civilians have been shot dead frequently in conflict-ridden Arakan State and perpetrators of any murder case have not been apprehended yet
