A young man, hails from Ngapali of Thandwe township in Rakhine State, was arrested by the police a year after he was charged under section 505 (b) of the defamation case against the State.

The arrestee is identified as Ko Han Myo Thurein (26), who lives in Jittaw ward of Ngapali town.

U Chan Min, the deputy administrator of Thandwe township, filed a lawsuit against him under section 505 (b) of the defamation procedure code for allegedly helping a detainee, who was active in anti-military protests in Thandwe during February last year, for the release. He was also charged  for organizing a rally in Thandwea area.

Ko Han Myo Thurein was arrested on 12 February 2022,  a year later of the concerned verdict.

One of his relatives commented that on that day Han Myo Thurein had an argument with the police. When the police abused him, Han Myo Thurein went to Jittaw police station to file a case. He was then arrested by the police there.

Han Myo Thurein  is presently held at Thandwe city police station following the remand up to  28 February.

According to a close source, Han Myo Thurein was conducting a human rights related training programs in Thandwe township.
