Surge of dengue fever cases in Waingmaw

Loads of people in Waingmaw Township suffered illness with dengue symptoms according to the locals.

“There are many people in Myitkyina Waingmaw who suffer illness. Even adults are sick. At least one person in every household is sick nowadays”, a female patient in Waingmaw said.

Patients with symptoms of seasonal flu, dengue fever and covid-19 omicron strain coronavirus are most commonly seen in Waingmaw recently. Local private clinics became overcrowded, local people said.

In Naung Tar Law village in Waingmaw, some children under 10 years old suffered bleeding from eyes and ears, according to their parents and relatives.

The main causes of the outbreak of dengue fever cases in Waingmaw are seasonal changes and delay of distributing mosquito and bug repellents for ponds and households.

“A proper healthcare is also needed. The delivery of mosquito and bug repellents for this year is late due to the busyness of healthcare and administrative officers so such situations happened”, an elder in Khat Cho village explained.

Some villages in Waingmaw still face rising dengue illnesses while cases in some villages start receding.
