With the Air and Navy forces on standby, security has been tightened in Mawlamyine for military chief General Min Aung Hlaing’s visit, the sources close to the military council told Than Lwin Times.

The military leader arrived in Mawlamyine on October 16 and met with family members of the South Eastern Regional Command.

During the military leader's visit, hundreds of military and police forces have been deployed in most parts of Mawlamyine, and security forces have been ordered to be on standby in Kyaikto, Belin, Thaton, and Ye Townships, where clashes frequently take place.

According to a source, the junta leader has asked the military personnel to provide 24-hour security during his visit as well as at the air force and navy headquarters.

According to people close to the military council, Mawlamyine, where the military leader visited, is close to Karen State, so a large number of security forces have been deployed there.

While the military leader was visiting the military families at the Southeastern Regional Command, he ordered them to live in unity within the army housing and not to leak army news, threatening to take action if it happened.

The security forces blocked and checked vehicles and motorcycles at the entry gate to Mawlamyine and in the city during the junta’s visit.
