In a deliberation on the report submitted by House of Representatives, the Ethnic Affairs and Internal Peace Implementation Committee in the parliament session convened on December 13, MP Khin Saw Wai from Rathedaung constituency in Rakhine pointed out that more authority should be given to this committee.

MP Khin Saw Wai said that the committee should visit IDP camps in armed conflict areas in Rakhine State and give assistance to them and listen to their voices, and if possible, they should engage with those in these particular conflicts to resolve the crisis through negotiations.

“In conclusion to my deliberation on this report, I would like to say more authority should be given to this parliament affairs committee which is representing the entire parliament to enable them to work on the peace process deeply to end the conflict and I wish peace will prevail in our beloved country at the earliest,” MP Khin Saw Wai said.

Similarly MP Myint Lwin from Twante constituency suggested that the comprehensive report mentioning difficulties faced in restoring internal peace and difficulties, obstructions, hindrances and disturbances encountered in the peace process, should be submitted by this committee to parliament.

House of Representatives, Ethnic Affairs and Internal Peace Implementation Committee Chairman MP Khun Maung Thaung from Pinlaung constituency of Pa’O self-administered zone said, “In the duty assigned to us, we have authority to invite the organizations concerned, meet and discuss with them under the guidance given by speaker of the parliament. So our authority for performing this duty is limited under this section regarding peace. For this reason MPs in this committee has limited authority to broadly perform their duty assigned to them.”

After deliberations on this report by MPs, speaker T Khun Myat asked for approval for this report by parliament which was duly granted.
