Rival Chin Resistance Factions Hold Separate Peace Talks in Mizoram

Rival Chin revolutionary factions held separate reconciliation talks during a three-day summit in Aizawl, Mizoram State, India, aimed at easing political and military tensions in western Myanmar, sources reported.

The "Chin Peace Summit 2026," held from August 6 to 8 at the Aijal Club, was facilitated by a peace committee established by Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma alongside the US-based Chin Peace and Reconciliation Committee.

Deep political divisions between competing governance bodies prevented a direct, three-way conference. Instead, mediators conducted individual sessions with leadership delegations from the Chinland Council (CC) and the Interim Chin National Consultative Council / Chin Brotherhood (ICNCC/CB).

"Due to the complex political situation in Chin State, a joint tripartite meeting was not possible," Salai Htet Ni, spokesperson for the Chin National Front (CNF)—a core member of the CC—told Mizzima. "However, we engaged directly with the host government and organizing bodies, and we plan to continue dialogue in future rounds."

The summit was also attended by representatives from local religious organizations and the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA).

During the individual sessions, delegates discussed joint coordination on humanitarian assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs), establishing direct communication channels to prevent inter-factional friction, and securing full executive participation for upcoming peace talks.

Despite official talks remaining separate, representatives from both rival coalitions informally attended a joint dinner reception hosted by the organizers.

The diplomatic push comes amid ongoing military escalation across Chin State, where resistance forces are battling junta troops in Mindat and Kanpetlet townships.

Meanwhile, the Myanmar military is reportedly reinforcing positions in Tedim and Falam townships to target strategic India–Myanmar border trade posts currently controlled by Chin forces.
