Only four candidates applied to run for State Hluttaw in Rathedaung

Only four candidates - three candidates from three political parties and one independent candidate - have submitted their applications to run for a seat in the Rakhine State Hluttaw from Rathedaung Constituency – 2 in the upcoming by-election.

Sittwe District Election Commission’s officer U Khin Maung Oo confirmed to Narinjara News that U Maung Hla Myint from the Arakan National Party (ANP), U Khin Than Maung from the National League for Democracy, U Thein Maung from the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) and independent candidate U Tin Maung Win (Dr Aye Maung’s son) will run for the seat.

“The candidates had to submit their applications between July 2 and 11. Only four candidates have applied for Rathedaung Township State Hluttaw. The Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) didn't submit any applications,” said U Khin Maung Oo.

Dr San Shwe, chair of the USDP branch in the Rakhine State, confirmed to Narinjara News that the party will not run for the State Hluttaw seat in Rathedaung Township.

“The party has decided not to run for seats in the state hluttaws because we want to have ethnic representatives in the states. We will not run for the State Hluttaw seat from Rathedaung Township in the upcoming by-election” said Dr San Shwe.
