Man Loses Leg in Taungup Landmine Explosion

Maung Sar Ga — TAUNGUP_ A 53-year-old man lost his left leg after stepping on a landmine in Taungup Township, southern Rakhine State, early Tuesday morning.

The victim, identified as U San Win from Seikkan Thit Village, was reportedly working as a fishery security guard near Do Taung when the blast occurred around 3:00 a.m.

 Local reports indicate he lives with his family near the "Gondhana" ship dock.

This incident adds to a rising toll of explosive remnants of war (ERW) in the region.

According to data compiled by Narinjara, three men have been killed and six others injured by landmines in the first two months of 2026 alone.

This follows a devastating 2025, which saw 21 civilian fatalities and 81 injuries attributed to landmines across Rakhine State.
