They said that because of an increase in farming in the area they are unable to rent enough privately owned tractors. They are worried that their farming schedule will be delayed if they do not get access to more farm machinery.

Local farmer Maung Nant Kalaw said that if he cannot get the necessary machinery soon his fruit trees would not flower and produce fruit at the time they normally should.

The Karenni State Chief Minister U L Phaung Sho told local residents, at a meeting he held with them on 24 April, that he had already submitted requests to the state government and that the machinery would arrive in time.

He said he would attend to issues of public health and agriculture in Bawlakhe District and that he would inform the residents about how and when the budget for the area would be allocated.
