Junta Suffers Over 1000 Casualties During from the Conflict in Northern Shan State Since Last October

During the more than 70-days since  'Operation 1027' was launched on October 27th in northern Shan State, the Junta’s losses including over 1000 troops is a big blow to the regime’s fast depleting manpower sources close to the army reported.

More than 300 wounded Junta troops, who sought treatment at various medical facilities, including military hospitals in Pyinoolwin and Mandalay, have succumbed to their injuries according to data compiled between October 27th and January 11th, when a ceasefire agreement was reached.

"In the ongoing compilation process of casualty lists from military hospitals, battalions and divisions in northern Shan State, it is revealed that the Military Council's manpower losses exceeds 1000 personnel when considering both the deceased and those who have lost their limbs. This represents the current tally, with the possibility of additional casualties yet to be accounted for”, the source told Shan Herald.

Both the Military Council and the Three Brotherhood Alliance have refrained from disclosing a casualty list, following the intense battles in northern Shan State.

As per the latest statistics, there are a minimum of 500 soldiers reported as dead or missing on the frontlines, with over 200 having suffered loss of limbs.

Junta sources indicate a significant number of soldiers deserting the Military Council nationwide, though accurately quantifying the extent remains challenging.

Shan Herald's properly collected data reveals that a minimum of 158 civilians lost their lives, and numerous houses and structures were destroyed due to the Military Council's airstrikes, shelling, and landmines throughout over 70 days of 'Operation 1027'.

Despite the Three Brotherhood Alliance's announcement of a ceasefire scheduled for 9:00 pm on January 11th, mediated by China in a meeting held in Kunming, intense fighting persisted in Kyaukme Township over the past weekend.

China had called for a second temporary cease-fire, and the two parties formally complied.

However ceasefire agreements are seldom effective without any monitoring mechanism unless the parties themselves have the political will to implement it. It is abundantly obvious that neither the Junta nor the Alliance have any real commitment to a ceasefire.
