Junta raids wedding in Yebyu, abducts over 20 people

The junta raided a wedding reception in Na Bu Lel Village Tract, Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, forcibly abducting more than 20 civilians.

Junta troops stationed at the deep-sea port project site in the Dawei Special Economic Zone entered Hteingyi Village in Na Bu Lel Village Tract around 5:00 a.m. on April 20 before storming a house where a wedding reception was being held.

According to locals, the raid occurred after junta troops received precise information from informants about a resistance fighter’s wedding.

The bride and groom managed to escape, but junta troops forcibly took more than 20 civilians who remained in the house, including the groom’s mother, a villager told Than Lwin Times.

The troops who carried out the raid remained stationed at Hteingyi Village Monastery, where the abducted civilians were being held, and they had not been released as of April 21.

Junta troops departed the deep-sea port project site on April 19 and subsequently entered Na Bu Lel Village Tract.
