Military junta airstrikes have triggered at least 11 mass-casualty events in Myanmar’s Rakhine State and neighboring Paletwa Township in Chin State since the beginning of 2026, according to data compiled by DMG.
Each incident resulted in at least 10 civilian casualties, bringing the total toll from these strikes to 228 civilians—89 killed and 139 injured.
The recorded attacks include strikes on the Chaungtu detention camp in Kyauktaw Township on January 20; Kyauktaw Town on February 12; Yoengu Village in Ponnagyun Township on February 24; Kyaukselpyin Village in Mrauk-U Township on April 19; Peinhnetaung Village in Ramree Township on May 28; Yammarkyun Village in Gwa Township on June 15; and a second strike on Kyauktaw Town on June 17.
Subsequent strikes targeted Maei Town on July 19; Thandwe Town on July 23 and 24; Kyaukkyi Village in Thandwe Township on August 10; and recent aerial bombardments in Paletwa, Chin State.
The four deadliest attacks—Yoengu Village, Chaungtu detention camp, Kyauktaw Town, and Kyaukkyi Village—accounted for 138 of the total casualties.
Local figures and analysts report that the military regime has intensified its air campaign following the launch of its "100-Day Plan," systematically targeting civilian areas to offset ground battlefield losses and attempt to force the Arakan Army (AA) into peace negotiations from a position of leverage.
"Since the launch of the '100-Day Plan,' the regime has carried out daily airstrikes targeting Rakhine State. Whenever the military fails to achieve victory on the battlefield, it commits atrocities against civilians to force parties to the peace table," said local writer Wai Hun Aung.
Military analysts note that the junta continues to exploit its total air superiority over the region.
"Under military chief Ye Win Oo, fleet airstrikes are being launched repeatedly against Rakhine State. Because the Arakan Army lacks air defense capabilities, the regime acts with extreme brutality. The international community must designate a No-Fly Zone; otherwise, the civilian loss will only escalate," said Captain Zin Yaw, a military defector.
The relentless bombardment has left residents across Rakhine State living in constant danger, severely impacting daily survival and economic activities.
Since the renewal of major fighting in November 2023 through August 2026, DMG has recorded a total of 24 mass-casualty incidents involving 10 or more victims in the region. As airstrikes persist, the Arakan Army has issued warnings urging the public to take precautionary measures against ongoing air threats.
