Junta Airstrike in Thandwe Kills Four Displaced Women, Including Two Young Girls

Maung Sar Ga — A Myanmar junta airstrike on Thandwe Township in southern Rakhine State killed four displaced civilians, including two young girls, and injured three others on Wednesday morning, according to a statement released by the Arakan Army (AA).

The AA reported that the Myanmar Armed Forces (MAF) launched a heavy aerial assault using four fighter jets between 11:00 AM and 11:45 AM on April 1. Simultaneously, a naval warship stationed offshore reportedly targeted the area with artillery fire.

Casualties and Victims

The deceased, all members of a single family originally from Tu Myaung Village in Kyauktaw Township, were identified as Daw Ma Aye May(47), Daw Ma Aung Than(26), Ma Pyae Phyo Nw(7) and Ma Aye Nyein Hlaing(2).

The strike also left three others injured, including a pregnant woman and two children as Daw Aye Thandar Oo(28) and  Ma Moe Htet Thandar(8), both from Ward No. 2, Kyintali Township.Ma Thaeyrat Oo(3) from Kin Maw Village, Thandwe Township.

Details of the Attack

The AA statement noted that the bombing hit the perimeter of the former 55th Battalion camp, an area currently occupied by AA.

“The entire family of four, who were fleeing the conflict in the vicinity, were killed on the spot,” the AA stated. “The Arakan People’s Revolutionary Government deeply regrets these deaths resulting from this deliberate attack on innocent civilians and is currently providing emergency medical treatment to the survivors.”

Escalating Violence

This incident marks the first reported case of an entire family being killed in Rakhine State since General Ye Win Oo took command of the military junta.

The AA warned that the military regime has intensified its aerial campaign in recent days, frequently deploying three or more fighter jets alongside reconnaissance aircraft.

The Arakan Army issued a strong warning to the public to remain vigilant and take precautions against the increasing threat of junta airstrikes.
