The junta carried out heavy airstrikes near Khuangli Village in Falam Township, Chin State, on December 16.
Despite the absence of active clashes in the area, junta aircraft dropped a large number of bombs, according to locals.
“The area around Khuangli Village was heavily bombed by the junta. Most residents had already evacuated beforehand, so there were no casualties. The full extent of the damage is still unclear. There were no active battles in the area, but it is believed the junta was targeting suspected resistance hideouts,” said a source familiar with the military situation in the region.
Khuangli Village is a small settlement with a population of around 300, according to the 2014 census.
After junta troops took control of Waibula Town in Falam Township, they advanced toward the township capital, Falam, but failed to break through and became stuck around Sumhrang Village between the two towns.
The junta is not only pressing a ground offensive toward Falam but is also deploying a wide range of airstrikes, drone bombardments, and artillery shelling.
