Junta troops loot civilians' belongings in Khampat

Junta troops controlling much of Khampat Town in Sagaing Region, located along the Kale–Tamu Road near the India-Myanmar border, have been ransacking homes abandoned by displaced civilians and hauling away looted belongings in 12-wheel trucks, according to locals.

"They're taking whatever they want from people's homes and loading it all onto 12-wheel trucks. People who witnessed the looting said the soldiers looked happy with what they were doing. They even burned down some houses. They broke into almost every house and shop in town and took anything they could get their hands on. They didn't even leave the schoolchildren's books, pencils, or stationery—they took those too,” a local told Chin World.

Fighting in Khampat Township briefly subsided on June 24 but resumed the following day. Despite suffering heavy losses in the clashes, junta forces have continued advancing toward Tamu Town in Sagaing Region, according to local resistance sources.

At around 10:30 a.m. on June 25, the junta also carried out an airstrike on Kanan Village in Tamu Township, dropping two bombs from a fighter jet. Locals said the extent of civilian casualties or injuries has yet to be confirmed.

Khampat, strategically located on the Kale–Tamu Road, a key trade route linking Myanmar and India north of Kale, was captured by the resistance-run National Unity Government (NUG) and a coalition of local resistance forces in early November 2023. However, nearly three years later, resistance forces have lost control of most of the town.
