Former NLD Representative Soe Thiha faces lawsuit

Soe Thiha, a former member of the National League for Democracy (NLD) for Paung Township Constituency No. 10, has been charged by the Area Controller of the same township.

Soe Thiha was charged under the Section 52 of the Anti-Terrorism Law on February 22, according to the Paung Township Police Station, where the case was filed.

"Our township's area controller has filed a lawsuit. We do not have Soe Thiha (in custody) at the moment. We are still looking for him. There are also other representatives named in the lawsuit besides him," they said.

Section 52 of the Anti-Terrorism Law carries a minimum sentence of 3years and maximum of  7 years in prison, if convicted.

Since the beginning of 2022, across Mon State, many homes owned by some NLD members and their supporters have been barricaded or closed up, as the junta has filed similar lawsuits.
