Flooding hits many parts of Mon State

Heavy rains have been falling on Mon State since August 15th, leading to extensive flooding.

Starting from the morning of August 16, floods have hit many parts of the state including  Zeya Myine, Thiri Myine, Thiri Minglar, Myain Thayar, Shwe Pyae Aye, Zeya Thiri, and Phaekhin Wards.

According to a relief official from Mawlamyine Township, " Now it's very bad in Zeya Myine. There is a lot of water. We are there now to provide relief assistance."

He said that if the rains continue, there is concern the flood waters will rise again.

Social relief members from Mawlamyine, are planning to deliver boiled rice to the people living in the flooded neighborhoods.

"The shops were closed because of this morning's  flood. We plan to distribute food and clear water for drinking" he added.

Flooding has also occurred along the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway. Rescue teams are helping cars and motorcycles pass safely along the Mudon-Thanphyuzayat highway between Naepado-Kwanhla. Flooding is also reported in Beilin, Paung, Thanphyuzayat, and Ye townships.
