Following heavy losses in northern Kachin State, the Myanmar military has dispatched a six-truck convoy carrying nearly 200 soldiers, weapons, and supplies to reinforce its positions in Khaunglanhpu Township, according to local sources.

The reinforcements departed on July 17 from Infantry Battalion 46 (IB 46) headquarters in Putao Township.

According to residents, the convoy included four trucks packed with troops—many reportedly deployed from lower Myanmar—and two loaded with ammunition, military drones, and rations.

Fighting between the junta, alongside an allied local militia, and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)-led resistance coalition has escalated significantly since July 10 around Amatyon Village, along the strategic Khaunglanhpu–Lanse road.

"The junta suffered heavy losses in the recent clashes, prompting them to rush troops and equipment from the Putao base to Khaunglanhpu," a resident close to IB 46 told the Kachin News Group.

Travel in the rugged terrain of northern Kachin State remains a logistical challenge. Locals noted that poor road conditions may prevent the heavy military trucks from reaching Khaunglanhpu directly, likely forcing troops to transport supplies on foot or transfer them to smaller vehicles for the final leg of the route.

Khaunglanhpu serves as a crucial administrative and border transit hub within Putao District. Resistance forces operating from neighboring Tsawlaw Township—where the KIA captured the strategic town of Lanse and a key hilltop base in 2024—have been pushing closer to Khaunglanhpu town.

In response to the KIA’s ongoing offensive, the military regime has launched counter-operations to reclaim lost territory, resulting in sustained high-intensity combat across the district.
