Representatives from the Burma Army and the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) met in Naypyidaw on Sunday to discuss issues ranging from the peace process to the spread of the coronavirus.

The meeting took place at Poung Long Hall, at the military’s headquarters. The RCSS delegation was headed by Maj-Gen Bawng Khur and Lt-Gen Yar Pyae.

“They discussed clashes in Mong Kung Township. They also discussed not clashing again,” RCSS spokesperson Col Oum Khur said.

The Burma Army and the RCSS had multiple battles in the Loi Don mountain range in Mong Kung Township in southern Shan State from February 27 through early March, causing hundreds of villagers to be displaced and the reported death of government troops.

The RCSS subsequently withdrew its soldiers from its camp on Loi Don mountain, and now Burma Army troops are stationed there.

Also discussed in the meeting were issues involving the Joint Monitoring Committee of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), regional development, and the spread and containment of the Covid-19 virus.

The RCSS is one of the 10 armed groups signatory to the NCA with the Burmese government and military .
