A new political party in Arakan State called the ‘Arakan Patriotic Party, APP’ has registered with the election commission in Naypyidaw.

A party official told Narinjara News: “We registered on 27 February. We haven’t yet chosen a chairman, secretary or other officials. The party will be led by a politburo of 16 people.”

He said that after they receive approval to form a political party they will systematically establish the party and make official statements.

He added: “We are not yet ready to speak out to the media, we are still in discussions. What we can say is that we have submitted an application to form a political party.”

Regarding the formation of a new political party in Arakan State when Narinjara News asked Dr Aye Maung, the chairman of the Arakan National Party (ANP) he said: “According to the democratic way we must welcome the new party. But, when all Arakan people want national reconciliation. If other small parties are being formed [in Arakan State] we worry that it may impact on unity.”
