Cargo boat carrying flood reliefs sunk in Arakan

A cargo boat carrying many relief items from World Foods Program (WFP) had sunk in Lay Myo river in Minbya township of Arakan State on 28 July evening, said an eye witness.

The relief items comprising 637 bags of rice, 81 bags of pea, 194 ackages of cooking oil (one package with 12 bottles) with 3 sacks of salt, were meant for the flood victims of several villages in Minbya township.

The Minbya township welfare association member Ko Soe Moe Kyaw confirmed the incident describing that the boat sank as it harbored at a jetty near to Kyat Sin Taungmaw locality of Minbya township.

The WFP local official informed that they had engaged some laborers to recover the goods from the sinking boat, but most of the items were damaged by the water. However there was no casualty.
