A mature elephant, injured by poisoning arrows of hunters in Roma range of southern Arakan died this weekend, said the police.

The pachyderm was hit by arrows of miscreants few days back and the police registered a case under the wildlife act 37 (Kha).

unnamed“We found the carcass of the animal at upper remote area of Nga Htwe Chung creek under Eleven Mile village adjacent to Ann-Nga Thie Chaung highway. Some portions of its thick skin were peeled by the miscreants. However both the ivories were intact with the body. We believe the hunters did not find enough time to take away the ivories,” informed the officer from Ann Myo Ma police station.

According to local sources, the elephant sanctuary in-charge U San Lwin informed the police about the incident following which the police personnel tracked the location to investigate the matter.

“An injury mark on the shoulder of the elephant was found and we understood that it was because of an arrow hit the animal. The elephant should be around 25 to 30 years old,” added the police officer.
