AA Detains Five Bangladeshi Fishermen in Arakan Waters

Khaing Lu Hla (Roma Mray) — The Arakan Army (AA) Coast Guard arrested five Bangladeshi fishermen for illegally fishing in Arakan waters on the afternoon of June 28, 2026.

The AA Coast Guard first spotted the fishermen moving suspiciously in a boat between Kyaukpandhu and Gruntaw in southern Maungdaw Township.

The fishermen initially fled when officers approached them for questioning.Authorities caught up with them at 1:40 PM after a second chase.They were apprehended about 2.7 kilometers southwest of the Gruntaw Chaung riverbank.

The five fishermen and their boat are being held and investigated under legal procedures.

On June 15, the Arakan Coast Guard arrested seven other Bangladeshi fishermen and seized two boats for illegal poaching in the same area.
