6 Injured in Military Airstrikes on Maungdaw and Gwa Townships

The Myanmar military has reportedly conducted airstrikes and bombed Maungdaw township on the western border of Rakhine State, as well as Gwa township in the southernmost part of the state. The attacks injured six people, including two schoolgirls.

Two schoolgirls were injured on the morning of June 24 when a junta jet fighter bombed a school in Maungdaw.

The victims are Ma Hnin Nu Khaing (18) from Mawrawatty village and Ma May Myat (19) from Inn Din village in  Maungdaw Township.

At around 11:40 a.m., a Myanmar military junta jet dropped two  bombs on the former Border Area and Ethnic Development Department (Natala) School and Ward (5) in Maungdaw town.

The strike damaged several school dormitories and left student Ma Hnin Nu Khaing with injuries to her left hand and head, while Ma May Myat Myat suffered injuries to her back.

Additionally, the attack destroyed more than 20 homes in Ward (5) in Mayngdaw belonging to local Hindu residents, including U Cha Bila, U Fo Dina, U Sandra, U Cha Jina, and U Ra Cha. The victims of this military airstrike are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.

Similarly, on the night of June 23, the Myanmar military launched two airstrikes on Kan Kaw Taung village in Gwa Township where four civilians sustained injuries following aerial bombardments by the military junta.

The bombing killed 55-year-old Daw Hle Kay Thi and injured three other residents: Ma Naung Thazin Htwe (19), U Chit Swe (52), and U Kyaw Win (60). The attack also destroyed two houses, an ambulance, and killed two cows.

Rakhine State remains the region most severely impacted by the military's brutality.

According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), at least 702 civilians were killed across Myanmar during a six-month period from August 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Rakhine and central Myanmar residents accounted for more than 81 percent of those casualties, with 573 fatalities recorded in the areas alone.

The air strikes follow a series of escalating aerial operations targeting civilian areas across Rakhine State.
